NCMSS 2012 took place at the Annandale campus of Northern VA Community College. It was an all-day event, although a tornado warning and power outage forced us to wrap up an hour earlier than planned. I had a great time, and want to offer congratulations to all the show winners, especially my friends Angie Fischer, Tim Kilgore, Mike Schaefer, and Jim H.!
This year the Miniature Exhibit, where all of the competition minis are displayed, was in a larger room than last year, with better lighting and a mirrored back wall. There was more space to walk around, and since my kids were still not tall enough to see the miniatures, the extra room let them pull up a chair to stand on.
My kids also very much enjoyed the free children’s Paint and Take again. This year I volunteered to help out at the event. Kids are fantastic, and I think I had as much fun as they did!
I exhibited all of the miniatures below, with the awards as shown. The special Movie-Theme award was very surprising (I hadn’t even thought of my Cave Troll as a movie miniature, since I’m a great lover of the book, and have only seen the films once). Even more surprising was winning Fantasy Best in Show for my entire display. The judges told me they each had a different favorite among my minis, and they couldn’t decide which was best, so they gave me Gold and Best of Show for all of them together!
Thank you, NCMSS!
There are more photos from the show on my NCMSS 2012 hobby event page.
Fantasy Gold, Fantasy Best of Show, awarded for entire display:
Non-competing Displayed Fantasy Minis: These two I didn’t enter for consideration of awards. They were displayed for viewing only. The River Troll already had a Bronze Demon under his belt, so I didn’t want to be greedy, and Scanman was just a little personal project, so I showed him for the fun of it.
Entered Non-winning Historical Miniature: St. Bridget of Sweden
