The Ten Domains Campaign

Player Characters

Brutus Boulderbrain
A Dwarven cleric of Moradin, Brutus hails from the independent dwarven city of Arrowtop, located in the mountains on the border between Peligrue and Belden.

Devlin
A slender, dextrous rogue, Devlin tends to keep his elven heritage hidden, along with his past. Introduced to the party by Peregrine simply as "an associate," he owns a vast array of skills usually reserved for those of shady credentials.

Dryzta Bladedash
Dryzta is a mysteriously dark half-drow elven fighter from Elfwood, the elf colony in Peligrue that pays tribute to the Peligruen king, but maintains its own rule of law. Dryzta is followed by a young elven wizard named Geoffrey, who has a terrible stutter that only goes away when he's casting.

Oliver Kessler
A Human Paladin of Heironeous, Oliver is the son of Peligruen Baron Tanam Kessler of Montfen, and is an avid anti-slavery crusader.

The Ten Domains Campaign Setting

Peligrue
The Kingdom of Peligrue is governed by a monarchy, currently led by King Gregorius. He is married, and his wife recently gave birth to their first child, a girl, who will be raised for eventual Queenship. Gregorius is just and good, although not all of the kings in Peligrue's history have been so, and not all of the current nobles are, either. Many of them are unhappy with Gregorius' introduction of gradual changes to allow more participation by commoners in the ruling of the realm. Despite its forward-thinking ruler, most Peligruens are still very traditional in their views about the sexes and social strata. Gregorius has therefore been careful to work slowly towards his goals for a more egalitarian society, in order to maintain his country's stability. The party is currently employed by Peligrue, through the auspices of Ash, the head of the King's Guard and Peligruen Intelligence.

Belden
The Kingdom of Belden is also governed by a monarchy, currently led by King Borgo, a tyrant of the worst kind. He is unmarried, but has two sons, both cut from the same cloth as their father. Under the deceptive influence of an orc cleric name Kethrog, Borgo greatly expanded the institution of slavery in Belden. He loosened slave laws, and overtaxed the country to pay for his own luxuries. Even the most honorable Beldenites found it difficult to survive without relying on cheap slave labor. The White Harts, an anti-slavery group operating in Belden, was recently revealed for its hidden revolutionary ambitions, and full-scale civil war broke out. At the same time, the orc nation of Guntog invaded from the south. King Borgo abandoned his southern subjects to the brutality of the orcs in order to concentrate his efforts on Belden's internal struggles. The White Harts, rallying behind Borgo's niece Alana, are attempting to fight on two fronts, one against Borgo, and one in defense of southern Belden against the orcs. King Gregorius of Peligrue has sent his army to aid the White Hart cause.

Guntog
Guntog is a loosely organized orc, ogre, and giant tribal nation. While fiercely territorial, the various competing factions rarely unite for organized forays outside their own lands. In the past, their few expansionist attempts focused east, upon the hated dwarves. Over a century ago, however, the dramatic transformation of geography that resulted in The Wilds created a buffer between the two historical enemies, and the orcs starting looking for nearer targets of their aggression. Under the leadership of a powerful orc cleric named Kethrog, Guntog invaded Belden, and rapidly expanded its control of the territories east of Lake Darrow.

Dwarven Realm and Arrowtop
The traditional dwarven lands encompass all of the mountains in the southern reaches of the Ten Domains. The dwarves there are stalwart, just, and good, but allow few visitors, and keep mostly to themselves. A more recent addition to the geography is the dwarven city of Arrowtop, founded just over a century ago. Although loosely under the auspices of the southern dwarves, Arrowtop is independently ruled, and maintains bustling trade with its neighbors in Peligrue and Belden. Arrowtop recently established a trade blockade against Belden, however, in protest of its slave trade, and joined Peligrue in aiding the Belden revolution and in driving the orcs back to Guntog.

Elven Forests and Elfwood
The elven colony of Elfwood is similar to Arrowtop in that it is independent from the elven territories to its north and east. Elfwood pays tribute to Peligrue, in which it resides, but rules itself.

Lantonia
Lantonia is a neutral nation governed by mageocracy out of Bedford. The do not get involved in the conflicts of their neighboring domains, but maintain a strong defense to protect their own interests. Their borders are open, and Bedford is known for its bevy of magical crafters, and the Order of Knowledge Arcane, which runs a wizard’s university there.

The Wilds
Created by a great cataclysm in centuries past, the Wilds is an area of wild magic and terrifying creatures of all kinds. The party learned how the Wilds came into being when they stepped through a temporal rift near a dwarven temple in the region, and managed to prevent the event from engulfing the entire universe, instead containing it in the area that is currently affected.

Feluvian Desert
Your party doesn’t know anything about the Feluvian Desert, other than that it exists, and that there are nomadic tribes of Halflings that are known to manage caravans that cross it at times. The group has in its possession a map that it found on the long-decayed remains of some adventurer in The Wilds. The map points to a pyramid in the desert, and is labeled, in draconic, “Tomb of the Great Blue Wyrm.”

Entria
The party doesn’t know much about Entria other than it’s geographic location to the west of Belden. There was an Entrian ambassador at the Belden capital of Tavon when you brought the Peligruen ambassador there, but none of you spoke with him.

Ralta
Although it lies on the coast, Ralta is almost impossible to reach by sea. The approach is rocky and treacherous, and the remains of numerous shipwrecks attest to failed attempts by daring sea captains. Ralta is bereft of natural resources, and though its people live in near-monastic poverty, they are peaceful and content. Meager agriculture supplements a largely seafood diet, harvested by small fishing boats that are able to maneuver in the deadly waters. Ralta seems to attract people who share a minimalist mindset, rather than a common heritage, and as a result, the racial makeup of the country is wildly diverse. Raltan travelers and exiles, recognizable for their facial tattoos, are viewed as strange and exotic by those in the neighboring domains.

NPCs and Organizations

Quist - Belden thief, petty informer, and all-around henchman for hire
Belannis - Peligruen Diplomat
Lady Alana - niece of Belden King Borgo, new mother of baby boy, recent widow, backed by the White Harts for the Belden throne
Dianassa - Lady Alana's handmaiden
Keel Miliamne - wizard leader of the White Harts
Lord Edward Foxley - good noble outside of Penrith, Belden, middle-aged widower with no children (Oliver wants to match him up with Alana)

White Harts

Until recently, the White Harts were known as a simple anti-slavery organization, raising funds to redeem slaves, while secretly running the Shadow Caravan, which led escaped slaves to freedom. They have been revealed as the major revolutionary organization in Belden, controling half the army, and backing Lady Alana, the King's neice, in a bid to take the throne.

Thieve's Guild

The Thieves Guild is divided into Houses, the three largest called Great Houses. The Anteri is one of these, and operates mainly in Belden and Entria.

Belden Politics: Jabalan Dynasty

King Borgo Jabalan came into power 17 years ago with the death of both his father, King Albert Jabalan, and his older brother, Prince Brodin. They died under questionable circumstances, and opposing their rapid rise soon became rather unhealthy.
